Brainstorming View

The Brainstorming View is a brand new feature to iMindMap 8. You can switch between Brainstorming and Mind Mapping View within iMindMap 8 and any changes you make on one, will be applied to the other.

This guide will cover the following topics:

You can switch between Brainstorming and Mind Map view at any time by selecting Mind Map or Brainstorm from the main tool bar under the Home tab


CREATING A NEW BRAINSTORM

 To create a new Brainstorm in iMindMap 8:

  • Run iMindMap 8 and go to File > New
  • Select Brainstorm under the Canvas heading
  • Enter a Name for your Brainstorm and click on Start.

You will now see a blank canvas with a cork board background. You will also notice a new Brainstorming tab menu has appeared along the main tool bar:

INSERTING IDEAS, GROUPS AND IMAGES

IDEAS

You can now start adding Ideas, Groups or Images to your Brainstorming canvas.

 To insert a Small or Normal sized Idea:

  • From the Brainstorming tab on the main menu simply click on 'Small Idea' or 'Idea'

You will see that the Idea has now been added to your work space and you are given the option to add in text for your idea.

  • Add the text for your idea and press Enter to save it.

 

Tip: You can edit the text at any time simply by double clicking on the Idea itself.

Tip: You can also quickly add a normal sized Idea to the workspace by simply double clicking on a blank area.

 

To delete an Idea:

  • Select the idea by left clicking on it
  • Press the Delete key on your keyboard, or Delete from the Brainstorming tab on the main toolbar

GROUPS

You can also add Groups of ideas to your Brainstorm to help keep things organised.

To insert a Group on to your work space:

  • From the Brainstorming tab, select the Group icon

  • The Group will now be added to your Brainstorm where you can enter a Group name
  • Once you have created the Group, you can now drag & drop other Ideas directly in to it.

 

 

 

You can edit the Group name by simply double clicking on the name along the top of the Group.

To take an idea out of a Group, simply drag and drop it out of it, or in to another Group.

To delete a Group:

  • Select the Group by left clicking on it
  • Press Delete on your keyboard, or Delete from the Brainstorming tab on the main toolbar

Note:  Deleting a Group will remove all contents of that Group.

IMAGES

You can also add Images on to your Brainstorm.

To add an image to your Brainstorm:

  • From the Brainstorming tab on the main menu, select 'Image'

  

  • This will then allow you to browse for an Image on your computer.
  • You can also add an Image from the built in Image Library within iMindMap 8 by selecting the Image icon from the right hand side of the software window.

You can add the image to a blank space on your canvas, or you can drag and drop it on to an Idea or Group in order to add it to them.

CHANGING IDEA COLOURS

To change the colour of an Idea:

  • Select the Idea that you would like to change the colour of by left clicking on it.
  • Simply select a different Colour from the choice of colours on the main tool bar under the Brainstorming Tab.

GROUPS

You can also add Groups of ideas to your Brainstorm to help keep things organised.

To insert a Group on to your work space:

  • Whilst in the Brainstorming View select the Group icon from the main toolbar: 

  • The Group will now be added to your Brainstorm and you can insert a Group name.
  • Once you have created the Group, you can now drag & drop other Ideas directly in to it.

 

 

You can edit the Group name by simply double clicking on the name along the top of the Group.

To take an idea out of a Group, simply drag and drop it out of it, or in to another Group.

To delete a Group:

  • Select the Group by left clicking on it
  • Press Delete on your keyboard, or Delete from the Brainstorm tab on the main toolbar

Note:  Deleting a Group will remove all contents of that Group.

IMAGES

You can also add Images on to your Brainstorm.

To add an image to your Brainstorm:

  • From the Brainstorming View, select 'Image' from the main toolbar:

  

  • This will then allow you to browse for an Image within the image library.
  • You can also insert your own images from your computer by selecting Insert > Insert from File on the top toolbar.

CHANGING IDEA COLOURS

To change the colour of an Idea:

  • Select the Idea that you would like to change the colour of by left clicking on it.
  • Select the Format icon from the right hand side of the main toolbar:

  • You can then select a colour of your choice.
You will also notice that you can toggle the size of the idea from bigger to smaller as well as Edit text or Delete the idea from this Format menu also.
