Creating branches


This guide will explain how to create different types of branches in iMindMap 10 and is split into the following sections:

 

    Creating a New Branch

    Creating a Box Branch

    Creating a Relationship Arrow

 

Creating a Branch

 

To create a new Branch:

 

  1. Open your Mind Map
  2. Click on your Central Idea

3. Select or hover over the '+' icon to the centre of the Central Idea image - this will bring up the Branch Target

4. Select the central red icon for a branch and drag it across the canvas

5. Drop the branch wherever you want it to be placed on the canvas

 

 

Creating a Box Branch

 

If you need to write sentences, paragraphs or need to add extra information that won’t fit on a single branch, create a Box Branch instead.

 

To create a new Box Branch follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Central Idea.

2. Select or hover over the '+' icon to the centre of the Central Idea image - this will bring up the Branch Drawing Tool

3. Select the outer yellow ring around the red icon for a box branch and drag it across the canvas

4. Drop the Box Branch to wherever you want it placed on the canvas

 

To add text to a Box Branch, click on the branch, start typing and then hit Enter on your keyboard.

To add a line break hold "shift" as you click Enter.

To change the size of a Box Branch, click and drag the blue control points from each corner.

 

 

Changing the Box Branch Style:

 

The Branch Box doesn’t have to be a simple rectangle shape, you can modify it to make it more interesting shapes. You can change the shape of the box branch by:

 

 

  1. Click on the Box Branch
  2. Under the Branch target menu click on the green circle
  3. This will bring up a pop-up menu

4. Click on the shape to change the design of the text box on your Box Branch

 

Creating Relationship arrows:

If you have two branches that are different, but are related in some way, you can show this by connecting them using “Relationship Arrows”.

 

To create a new Relationship Arrow, follow these steps:

 

 

  1. Hover over the end of an existing Branch
  2. Click on the grey circle to bring up a Pop-up Edit menu- “Branch Formatting”

3. Click on the icon of a white arrow in a light green box - “Draw Relationship

4. This will create a Relationship Arrow, drag it to the branch you want to display a relationship with, then release.

  3. Click on “Shape” to bring up a menu
  4. Under “Branch Box Format click on shape to open a drop-down menu
  5. Click on the shape to change the design of the text box on your Box Branch

Creating Relationship arrows:

 

If you have two branches that are different, but are related in some way, you can show this by connecting them using “Relationship Arrows”.

 

To create a new Relationship Arrow, follow these steps:

  1. Hover over an existing Branch

4. This will create a Relationship Arrow, drag it to the branch you want to display a relationship with, then release.
